Meta messaging app WhatsApp has been adding new features that benefit users and their privacy. Adding to the list will be ‘Call Links’ announced today, giving users a new way to join group calls with just a few taps.

The unreleased feature will work for anyone on WhatsApp – even if you haven’t saved their number in your contacts. The ‘but’ part is that the callers should have WhatsApp installed, or the function won’t work.

It was announced on Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter by Will Cathcart. The feature lets you create a hyperlink for friends and contacts to join a group call without requiring them to access the direct video calling button.

Mark Zuckerberg mentions that Call Links is currently rolling out and will take a few days or a week. He also disclosed that WhatsApp’s developer team is currently testing secure encrypted video calling for up to 32 people, and more information regarding this will be announced soon.

Call Links is not a new feature; it’s only making its way to WhatsApp now. Other messaging apps that have had this feature for a while now include Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Zoom, and others.
