Apple has started production of its highly successful iPhone XR in India. The world’s most famous smartphone got a ‘made-in-India’ tag as Apple has begun the commercial production of iPhone XR in India. According to a research firm IHS, Apple iPhone XR is the top-selling smartphone of 2019. Moreover, the company also started contract manufacturing in India in 2016 with iPhone SE.
“To start with, it makes sense for Apple to localize assembling of models that have the potential to scale up and then slowly expand it to the entire portfolio,” Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Research, told IANS.
Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, Foxconn’s Chairman Terry Gou, said that the company would begin mass production of iPhones in India this year. It is believed that the production of the XR model has begun in Chennai. Apple has also confirmed that it would not increase the pricing of its products and had made plans to move some of its manufacturing to countries like Taiwan, Vietnam, Mexico, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The iPhone XR is available for ₹ 44,900 for the 64 GB version.
“We love our customers in India, and we’re eager to serve them online and in-store with the same experience and care that Apple customers around the world enjoy,” Apple said.
