Windows has a lot of potentials and Windows 10 is gradually unlocking it. Since the days of Vista, Microsoft has come a long way of improving its operating system. One can say that it is almost neck to neck with Apple’s macOS. Yes, almost, not nearly there as Windows still has to figures out the optimization and handling of trojans and viruses. So what neat little flaws am I referring to? Well, unwanted programs to be specific. Sometimes, you might see a new application on your Windows that you never installed.
Even though a program is installed, it accompanies an unwanted program, which gives a headache to the user. Recent such example is the YourPhone.exe. Many users have reported that they are seeing this process in their Task Manager on their personal computer and can’t remember installing it. Also, they did not receive any warning about it being a virus or malware. So, what is it exactly? Scroll below to know about the “supposed” virus!
What is Yourphone.exe
Your Phone is a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app included with Windows 10 1903 version. That is a Microsoft app which synchronizes Windows 10 with Android and iOS phones. It basically lets Windows 10 users sync photos across the OS, Android, and Apple devices. Furthermore, users can use Your Phone to send and receive SMS texts from Windows 10 desktop or laptop. Samsung’s partnership with Windows lets its users mirror phone screen on their PC which runs on Windows 10. In short, the application integrates Windows with mobile devices.
How to stop it
Now that it has come to light that YourPhone.exe isn’t a virus, trojan, malware – whichever term you prefer, the main question is, should you remove it? Well, it depends. If you own an Android device, or even the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, you can put this application to good use. It can be used to sync photos, videos, reply to text messages and even mirror your screen (only on the Note 10, Note 10+) If you don’t care what it does and simply want to get rid of it, you can do so in a few steps.
Step 1: Open the Settings App on your Windows PC > Go to Privacy > Background Apps.
Step 2: Look for YourPhone app in the list.
Step 3: Click on it and then select Advanced options.
Step 4: Then toggle off the option for Background apps.
Remove Your Phone app
You just need to type a command and YourPhone will be removed from your personal computer, never to be seen again. To do so, right-click on the Start button at the corner or press Windows + X and select Windows PowerShell (Administrator). Now, type the following command and then hit enter.
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.YourPhone -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage
Now, restart your Windows to give a final effect.
So, there you have it. YourPhone.exe isn’t malicious. In fact, you should take advantage of it if you’re on a PC with multiple user accounts. You also don’t have to pick up your phone every time you receive a text. YourPhone is a reliable app from Microsoft which runs in the background. Rest assured, it does not use excess memory or CPU nor does it have any impact on your PC performance. Although, if you are like me and often live in paranoia, you could simply do a full system scan with reputable antivirus software that can assure you of your personal computer’s safety.
