Joe Biden has again said that US soldiers would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack.
In a CBS interview, Biden was asked whether US armies would defend Taiwan.
Mr. Biden replied, "Yes."
Recently, when Biden visited Tokyo in May, he said the US forces would intervene militarily if China tried to capture Taiwan by force.
Taiwan has its own constitution and president.
The tension between China and Taiwan has been raised after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's contentious visit.
Earlier this month, the US agreed to sell Taiwan defensive weaponry and missiles worth $1 billion.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that the "reunification" of China and Taiwan is unavoidable.
