The OnePlus 7T line is riding high on its success but it didn’t stop the rumor world churning up some spicy leaks about the OnePlus 8 Pro. The newer design will introduce a hole-punch camera (or cameras; more on that later), ditching the pop-up camera, just like the ones on the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series.
The leak, from True Tech, was probably circulated by a OnePlus employee which also corroborates a leak from last month that showed a similar rear camera setup and hole-punch camera. The leak also puts some spotlight on the vanilla OnePlus 8 as it will feature a single hole-punch front camera.
The Pro version has a second front camera sensor, which I believe could be an ultrawide camera for group selfies, like the Pixel 3 or a depth sensor for better selfie portraits, the same as the Galaxy S10 Plus. I really hope it’s an ultrawide camera as portrait bokeh can be obtained by the software.
True Tech also posted a host of screenshots of the diagrams that explain in detail the position of various hardware parts. Whatever the case may be, I will any day prefer a hole-punch camera than pop-up mechanism hardware which won’t make me anxious about its failure.
Another rumor points to OnePlus including a 120Hz display in the 8 Pro flagship, going neck-to-neck with Asus ROG II. The current OnePlus flagships have a 90Hz refresh rate and are already loved by the critics.
