American media personality and socialite Khloé Kardashian revealed on Tuesday that she had a tumor removed from her face.

She received two biopsies from two separate doctors, both of whom thought the bump was “incredibly rare” for someone her age and needed an immediate operation. She has a history of melanoma.

According to The Mayo Clinic, skin cancer is the anomalous growth of skin cells that normally develop on skin which is exposed to sunlight, namely the sun’s UV rays. Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma are the three primary types of skin cancer, while Merkel cell carcinoma is a rarer, more fierce form of skin cancer, as per the Skin Cancer Foundation.

38-year-old Khloé is the younger sister of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian who are well-known for appearing in reality shows Keeping Up With The Kardashians (now changed to The Kardashians), with her famous family. She is also the founder of Good American clothing brand that promotes “body acceptance.”

She said she was operated on by Dr Garth Fischer, ‘one of the best surgeons in Beverly Hills.

“I have seen numerous stories going around about the ever-evolving bandage on my face with some of you wondering why I’ve been wearing one for the past few weeks. After noticing a small bump on my face and assuming it was something as minor as a zit, I decided to get it biopsied 7 months after realizing it was not budging,” she detailed her recent skin cancer scare on her Instagram stories.

The reality star also mentioned that the only reason she’s sharing her story to be seen as a reminder to get frequent checkups, and narrating her past health scare when doctors found a cancerous mole on her back.

“I’m grateful to share that Dr. Fischer was able to get everything — all my margins appear clear, and now we are onto the healing process. So, here we are… you’ll continue to see my bandages, and when I’m allowed, you’ll probably see a scar (and an indentation in my cheek from the tumor being removed) but until then I hope you enjoy how fabulous I’m making these face bandages look,” she added.

Dr. Garth Fisher, Khloé Kardashian’s surgeon, spoke out after after removing a tumor from her face: “Dear Khloe, @khloekardashian, you and your family have been dear to me for a very long time. I was so saddened that you required a procedure requiring removing of a dangerous and significant tumor from your face. I felt like I was operating on my own daughter,” Fisher wrote alongside his post, a re-post of Khloe’s Instagram Stories from earlier in the day. “I was honored that you put your trust in my staff and me. I am tremendously relieved that we got it all out and you can now get past this. You’re beautiful and have a heart of gold. Now let’s get this scar to heal great and be mindful of too much sun exposure”
