The newly crowned King Charles III will join ‘The Repair Shop’ in a special episode to commemorate the British Broadcasting Corporation’s centenary. The programme will explore the King’s and show’s shared devotion for conserving heritage skills.

His Majesty chose two items for repair: an 18th-century bracket clock from the collection at the Prince’s Foundation’s Dumfries House headquarters, and a piece of Wemyss Ware made for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

The incumbent King made an appearance on the show as the former Prince of Wales between autumn 2021 and March 2022 for filming.

The King will be seen giving Blades a tour of the estate, as well as meeting some of the students on a Prince’s Foundation programme, teaching traditional skills like, wood carving, stonemasonry, and blacksmithing.

BBC commissioning editor Julie Shaw said, “This is an incredibly special programme, which has the magic that Repair Shop viewers have come to know and love. People will see the former Prince of Wales as you rarely see him – and he is as captivated by the skills of the team who work on his items as any of our Repair Shop visitors. The episode is a real treat and we hope that people enjoy it as much as we do.”

During the episode, the show’s host Jay Blades and his team will meet the King at Dumfries House, which is owned by the King’s charitable foundation in Ayrshire, Scotland.

The show offers a heartwarming antidote to throwaway culture’ by urging members of the public to bring family heirlooms that are in desperate need of repairs.

The Repair Shop will air the special episode on October 26 at 20:00 BST (12:00 pm Wednesday, PT) on BBC One.
