Back in the day — phones were only famous for making calls and text messages. We had to buy an expensive camera if we wanted to take stunning photos for whatever reasons.
But now the game has changed smartphones have come a long way. They are equipped with some of the great camera sensors. Many smartphones now come with raw image & 4k video shooting abilities. Now you can take stunning photos with your mobile phone.
So, if your phone’s stock camera is not charming that’s ok. There are mobile apps available for almost everything, you name it. You can use photo editing apps to increase/decrease the exposure of your shot, improve the highlights, fill more colors and not just that you can do a lot more.
Snapseed & Lightroom are said to be the best photo editing apps for mobile users. There are thousands of presets available for free when it comes to the lightroom pc version. Good news is that now you can install all those presets in lightroom mobile as well. Here’s how to install presets in lightroom mobile.
How to create presets within Lightroom Desktop App
If you already have created the presets, you can skip this step. To create a new preset follow the steps given below:
- Import a photo you want to use to create the preset. Go to develop mode.
- On the left-hand side, you will find the navigator option. Under the navigator, you will see “Presets”.There you will find many presets that are previously installed.
- Now click on the + icon to create a new preset.
- Once you click the + icon, a big new menu will popup. Here you can select the settings you wish to apply for your preset. Select Check all if you want to use all these settings for your preset.
- Give your preset a name and then click on create. This will create a new preset.
- You can find the preset under “User Presets.”
- Now you can apply this preset on all your photos.
Let’s move further and see how you can add the same preset you have created in lightroom desktop app to the lightroom mobile app.
How to Install Presets in Lightroom Mobile
There are different ways to add presets in lightroom mobile but in this article, we are going with the easiest method. First of all, you should have the Lightroom Mobile App if you want to use your presets that you have created on your Lightroom Classic CC desktop app.
1. Open Lightroom Classic CC Desktop App
If you have created presets in lightroom classic cc it will sync automatically once the app is launched. So, launch the Lightroom desktop app.
Once it’s fully loaded, proceed to next step.
2. Select the preset you want to use on Lightroom Mobile App
Select a photo go to develop module. Simply choose the preset you want to add to your lightroom mobile.
NOTE: You can edit a photo directly and then follow the next step without saving/creating or selecting a preset. However, the downside is that you won’t be able to use it again on your desktop app that is why we recommend you to save it first and then export.
Now Go to File>Export with Preset>Export to DNG.
The photo will be saved in .dng format. Don’t worry all your settings are saved inside the DNG file.
Once you have saved the DNG file on your desktop transfer it to your smartphone.
The last step that remains is how to add and use .dng file to lightroom mobile app so that you can use it whenever and wherever you want.
How to add DNG presets in lightroom mobile and apply it to your photos
To add DNG file to Lightroom mobile:
STEP 1: Launch Lightroom mobile app on your smartphone. Add the DNG file to Lightroom. For this tutorial, I am using a free preset. You can download free lightroom mobile presets from preset.ly.
STEP 2: Now select the preset i.e. DNG file and tap on the three-dotted menu which is located at the top right corner.
STEP 3: There are two things that you can do here. First, you can go with “Create Preset” option or else with 2nd option which is “Copy Settings”.
I would recommend you to go with the 1st option “Create Preset” because you don’t want to copy settings, again and again, every time you want to apply this preset while editing a photo.
STEP 4: Once you select “Create Preset”, a new tab will pop-up where you can assign a preset name. Here you also get to choose the settings that you want to keep by checking the boxes which are present at the beginning of each setting.
You can also select the preset group where you want to add this preset. For example, I have saved it to User Presets. Once all done, click on the tick mark (✓) to save all the settings.
STEP 5: Now select a photo on which you want to apply this preset. Then go to “Presets” and select “User Presets”. Now choose the preset that you have created. Wait for settings to apply and thereafter click on the tick mark (✓) to successfully apply preset.
Now you can go ahead and export/share this photo on your Instagram feed.
