How to Change Spotify Username

I admire the Harry Potter series and my favorite character is Severus Snape’s alter ego, Half-Blood Prince. I have been using it as usernames for various services, with an append here and there. So I decided that I will use HBP as my Spotify username but I made a mistake – halfbloddprince. I really wanted to know how to change Spotify username. The results are disappointing.

There’s always a war when more than two kinds of services exist in the same market. Be it watching content on video-streaming sites or listening to music on music-streaming sites, you’ve got to choose one. When it comes to popularity, Spotify is preferred by over 5 crore people on the Google Play Store, so that’s about its virality. The Sweden-streaming giant has a great user-interface, a repository of 50 million songs and up to 320kbps Ogg Vorbis, or AAC stream quality.

Although Spotify is popular and those using it on a regular basis, know hard it is to look past its flaws. One of them is the ability to change the Spotify Username – You can’t! But there are some workarounds with which you can change your awkward and juvenile username. So, let’s jump right in!

How to Change Spotify Username

As I have mentioned, you can’t edit your Spotify username but you can create a new display name that replaces the username where it shows on your profile, app, playlists, etc. The reason Spotify mentions their sternness to not let users change their username is that its system maps playlists to accounts. This makes it hard to change the username. The only workaround is to start over, assuming you are so badly embarrassed by the current name.

By starting over, I don’t mean destroy Earth and move to the Garden as Thanos did. You’ll simply have to create a new account with a new username. After this, contact Spotify’s customer support team and request them to shift everything, including your playlists, to the new account. Of course, you’ll have to close your current Spotify account. Subscribers need to cancel it before opting for this workaround.

Terminating or closing your account means all your playlists, playlist followers, and your music/library collections will be lost forever. So, contact the Spotify support team and ask their help to move all your data to a new account. Keep in mind that you’ll have to do this within seven days of closing the old one. Once that’s done, create a new account with your new username. And yes, you cannot use a username twice, even if you closed the old account.

Another option includes signing up for Spotify With Facebook. Here’s how to do that:

Conclusion

Spotify is an amazing streaming service that users across the globe love it. Its “Lite” version was recently launched in a lot of countries, supports Google Assistant integration, can be added to Google Maps while navigating to a place.

But, it isn’t all roses. Spotify’s updates have been controversial as they keep removing features rather than adding them. But after removing the widget, they brought it back with subtle changes. Overall, Spotify has its share of good and bad days. I sincerely hope the Swedish streaming giant adds the option of changing the username.
