Google Pixel 7 users can access the VPN before the year-end

The Google One VPN service isn’t available in India and Singapore, and Pixel 7 owners in these markets can't access the service.

When Google took the wraps off the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro a week ago, they announced several exciting features, but one feature specifically was the talk of the town. Anyone who bought a Pixel 7 or the 7 Pro would get a VPN at “no extra cost.”

The exact timing of when the Pixel 7 series owners would get access to this VPN was not mentioned in the Made by Google 2022 event, and the feature is still unavailable to Pixel 7 owners. But an official support document confirms the launch window, and the document points explicitly to Pixel 7 availability “as of December 2022.”

Google also clarifies that the free offering “does not impact the price or benefits of Google One Premium plans” for those already using the 2TB+ plan.

For those who do not know what VPN is, it stands for ‘Virtual Private Network.’ It is a tool that allows people to stay secure online, which enhances privacy by encrypting all internet traffic from the user. Third parties, such as their internet service provider, advertisers, bots, and more, cannot spy on these users.

On a Google support page, the search giant mentions: “VPN by Google One on Pixel 7 & 7 Pro devices:  As of December 2022, *Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro consumers can access VPN by Google One at no extra cost on those devices through the Google One app without a Google One subscription. All other Google One membership benefits are sold separately. Current Google One premium members (2 TB or higher) already have access to VPN by Google One on multiple devices. This VPN offering doesn’t impact the price or benefits of Google One Premium plans. VPN by Google One is only available with eligible Google accounts. Workspace and certain supervised accounts (including child accounts) aren’t eligible.”

This ‘feature’ will definitely save Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners the subscription cost. Still, they won’t get access to any of the rest of the Google One features of the $9.99 plan, nor will the Pixel 7 owners get the opportunity to subscribe at a discount.

It’s worth stating that Google VPN doesn’t change the user’s IP location to view content from other regions.

Unfortunately, the VPN by Google One service won’t be available in India and Singapore, so the Pixel, 7 series owners in these regions aren’t eligible for the service.

Google will also release the ‘Clear Calling’ feature in December, making the 2022 Christmas even more special for Google device owners, especially those who buy Pixel 7 or the 7 Pro.
