It isn’t October, but Google might launch the highly anticipated Pixel 5 tonight at 23:28 IST. It’s for the first time that Apple hasn’t announced an iPhone, and Google is on the verge of launching the successor to the Pixel 4. The invitations that Google sent out established that “new Pixel phones” would be launched alongside a new Nest-branded smart speaker and a new Chromecast. The Pixel 5 has been leaked a lot, but the official launch event will go all guns blazing about the device.

What the rumor mills say about Pixel 5

Like the Pixel 4a, the Pixel 5 could also sport a hole-punch display, where the camera is left-centered. It will have a physical fingerprint scanner on the back, unlike its predecessor, which had nixed the scanner for a more secure face unlock. It will support wireless charging and don’t expect to see a 3.5 mm audio jack.

For the specifications, the Pixel 5 will sport 6.2 inches 2340 x 1080 display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It will also have a 90Hz refresh and a 4,080mAh battery to sustain it. A midrange Snapdragon 765G processor could power it. It has Qualcomm’s integrated X52 modem for 5G, but it will only support the slower sub-6GHz 5G networks, not the quicker mmWave 5G.

This year, Google is rumored to add a second, 16 MP ultrawide camera, and the primary 12.2 MP camera will be carry-forward. The hole-punch selfie shooter would be an 8MP camera, 8GB RAM, an IP68 rating to survive poolside splashes, and an 18W Type-C fast charging.

The device will be launched in some black and green variants, although the fancy naming isn’t known yet. The price might touch $735 (roughly ₹54,265). Due to the tech used in the face unlocking of the Pixel 4, it wasn’t launched in many countries, including India. Maybe that’s why Google nixed the hardware.

Chromecast powered by Google TV

Codenamed Sabrina, there’s a new rumor about a Google-made TV dongle that costs $50. It is officially called as Chromecast with Google TV. The device runs on the new Google TV operating system (Android TV originally). It will come with remote control, which is new for any Chromecast since previous owners relied on casting content from their smartphones or laptops to it on the TV.

Reddit user “u/fuzztub07” bought the device from Walmart and posted a video of the same. The video shows several services such as Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and a few games that, according to Google, can be played the device’s remote or a gamepad. Moreover, the said remote might have dedicated launch buttons for Google Assistant, Netflix, YouTube, and a circular tool for navigation.

Nest Audio

Google was smart enough to share a picture of the upcoming Nest smart speakers. The spotlight is a blue model and a pink one placed in the background. There’s also a gray color that was noticed due to a regulatory filing. They, too, were on the store shelf. The packaging has the “Nest Audio” written all over. It will support Google Assistant and touch controls. It could tune itself to a room with a feature known as ‘smart sound.’ The Nest Audio might cost $99.
