Google launches a midrange Pixelbook Go; Starts at $649

Google held its annual event yesterday in New York where a bunch of devices was launched. After the Interner tore apart every piece of information on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL, we thought there wouldn’t be any surprises. Boy, I was wrong. The Google Buds 2, Nest Mini and a Pixelbook Go are the new devices in this year’s catalog which boast of new upgrades and promises performance. Let’s see what the Pixebook Go is capable of.

If western critics are to be believed, the Pixelbook Go feels like a high-end laptop which actually offers midrange specifications for a mouth-watering price. It starts at $649, which is comparatively cheap but there are sacrifices that Google had to make in order to achieve that price tag.

First, let’s talk about what’s good. The Pixelbook Go achieves its “premium” tag with the magnesium build as it makes the laptop significantly lighter – 1kg or 2.3lb. Heck, it’s even lighter than the similarly-sized Surface Laptop 3 and MacBook Air. Moreover, there isn’t any frame flex which is quite a surprise as lightweight laptops have to endure that.

The laptop has an off-the-shelf 13.3 inches 1080p display panel, with a 4K panel on the Intel Core i7-powered model. There is no stylus support, nor the laptop can be rotated 360° but thankfully, it retains the touchscreen display. It operates on the ChromeOS. It means that you can do menial tasks like browsing, surfing the internet. But if your work depends on specific Windows programs, like Adobe, then you shouldn’t choose the Pixelbook Go.

The trackpad of the Pixelbook Go is quite large and responsive, while the keyboard is both clicky and quiet. It simply beats the one on the original Pixebook. For travelers, there’s the ribbed metal bottom that is said to make it more grippy when carrying.
