German court allows Tesla to clear forest for its Gigafactory

The decision by the Berlin Brandenburg Administrative Court means Tesla will be allowed to clear trees on the site before the end of the month as that is when environmental law would forbid cutting down the trees which mark nesting and mating season for local wildlife.

The electric carmaker declared its plans back to build a Gigafactory in November 2019 in Gruenheide in the eastern state of Brandenburg that surrounds Berlin, a decision that was initially praised as a vote of confidence in Germany.

Nevertheless, local and national lawmakers outweighed the Gigafactory opposition and thus began the hundreds of demonstrators protesting over what they say is the threat it poses to local wildlife and water supplies.
