Samsung’s Bixby speaker did not get the rave reviews but that didn’t stop them from making a second one. They showcased its Galaxy Home Mini at its developer conference a few weeks ago. It wasn’t launched officially but leaks confirm its features.
Amazon Echo and Google Home, the ruling smart speakers just don’t answer your questions, they can control other devices and appliances too, provided they are connected to the same network. Samsung’s Bixby speaker is rumored to launch infrared transmitters to let you control home appliances offline. This will also enable voice-based commands to access non-smart home devices.
Yi Ji-soo, VP of the AI team at Samsung’s IT & Mobile Communications said, “Galaxy Home Mini is equipped with four infrared remote transmitters and receivers to cover all ranges. Users can register nearly all remote signals of home appliances in the Galaxy Home Mini to control [appliances] regardless of brand or internet connection.”
The market for smart speakers is not that great right now. Currently, Amazon is leading the market and Bixby’s is practically dead. But if Galaxy Home Mini launches soon with an IR blaster, it could have rule the market as practically no other smart speaker has this feature.
As of now, there isn’t a tentative launch date nor any leaks but my guess is that it might launch with the upcoming Galaxy S11 series in February 2020.
