Features of Android Nougat

Since 2009, Google has unveiled new versions of Android OS each year and every version has offered something new to the users. The introduction of Android Nougat is another effort by Google to mesmerise users with something spectacular. Nougat may not offer the same aesthetically pleasing visual experience that you have witnessed in Android Lollipop two versions ago, but it is an OS that has been refined thoroughly over all other Android versions released so far. Whether it is smarter notifications or refreshed multitasking options, the usability changes and new features added in Nougat offered up rich promises to the Android users.

Google had announced last year that it will keep working on this project and will bring in further improvements. That’s why after launching Android 7.0 in the year 2016, Android 7.1 version has been launched in October and 7.1.1 version came on December fifth on the same year. This year Android 7.1.2 version has seen the daylight on select smartphones. At Google IO 2017, the company has announced that Android O may soon come out of its beta version. Google is giving top priority for developing OS for smartphones and tablets that will enable users to unleash the full potential of advanced technology.

Take a Look at Some of the Exciting Features of Android Nougat

Features of Android Nougat

Split-Screen Multitasking

Before explaining the speciality of split-screen multitasking, let’s dig deeper any try to figure out why Google is so successful with all the products and services they have come up with. It is the company that always tries to understand the pulse of the users- what they want, why they want and what demands they could make in the future. It is this telepathic talent of Google in reading the minds of the users and accurately responding to their expectations make them a supreme leader in the tech-world. Google has realised that mobile apps will continue to dominate the market and their use will only grow with every passing day. It will be impossible to satisfy seasoned Android users if the company is not bringing an enticing alteration in using multiple apps at the same time.

Split-screen multitasking is probably the most useful feature of Android Nougat. In split-screen mode, the system fills the screen with two apps, and both the apps occupy fifty-percent of the usable screen area. The apps can be seen either one-above-the-other or side-by-side. To put an app in split view mode users need to long press the overview button. The opened app will automatically shift to the top half of the screen and the recent apps button will appear at the bottom of the screen. Choose the second app you want in split view and you can use both the apps at once.

Revamped Notifications

The notification shade is entirely revamped in Android N. The new-look notification panel is sleek, information-oriented and eye-catching. Features like Bundled Notifications and Direct Reply are also infused in this beautifully decorated notification panel. It is easier in Nougat to adjust notifications on an app-by-app basis.

Data Saver

Nougat sports a built-in data saver feature that will restrict random data usage of apps in the background. Built-in-data saver mode was present in the previous versions of Android, but what’s new in Nougat is this mode also informs apps to use less data on the foreground as well.

Improved Security

With every update, Google continuously aims at making operating systems more secure. With Nougat powered smartphones, whenever you start your phone, few not so important apps will work such as Alarm, Text Message but other important apps may not open up without your PIN or password. It is a praiseworthy initiative by Google to give proper importance of keeping user’s data safe and secure.

For users who are very specific about the looks of their settings, this feature is really remarkable. Quick Settings Menu allows users to customise the menu icons according to their choice. You can swap the Auto-rotate icon with a different one, you just need to tap on the edit button on the upper right corner of the display and exchange it with your desired icon. The feature may appear small but it has immense relevance.

Enhanced Battery Life

Smartphone makers all over the world are trying to improve the battery life of their devices. Google has aided in their efforts with inventing Doze mode feature with its Marshmallow versions. With Android Nougat, Doze feature has been improved and revitalised in order to make it more effective. Earlier this feature used to save battery when the device was inactive or at rest. In Nougat, Doze mode will help to preserve battery charge even when you’re on the move or the screen is turned off. It doesn’t require a command from the users to save battery. Android Nougat gives users the opportunity to tweak each app individually. This tiny feature could prove to be a game-changer for Android Nougat.

New Emoji Additions

More than words, people love to share their feelings, emotions and sentiments through images and visuals. Emojis have become a valuable part of online communication for the people of all ages. Along with spicing up messages, emojis can be used to resonate feelings better than text. Android Nougat has been released with a bunch of new emoji additions. Users can make the text, icons and other items on their smartphones smaller or bigger by changing the display DPI. The feature has been expanded greatly in order to make on-screen items easily recognisable. It is a remarkable addition that may prove highly beneficial for those with visual problems.

Improved File Explorer

File explorer came with Marshmallow and Google has taken it to the next level with Android Nougat. There is no need to take help from third party file explorers to open up a file. Large or small, all types of file can be read or edited with the improved file explorer feature.

Language Modification

The option of language modification can make the use of your Android devices more enjoyable and productive. Nougat gives you the option to choose language according to the specific region. For example, if you are in Japan and you have set the language of the region you will get the notification in the Japanese language instead of default language of your device. When you will try to write a message using any messaging app the local language will appear on the typing text display. It is up to you to decide how to make the best out of this feature.

With every new upgrade in the Android OS, you can expect some out-of-the-box features and Android Nougat will certainly not going to disappoint. Google has minutely taken care to enhance the usability and usefulness of this brand new OS for its users.
