When Ramesh Chauhan was asked if he was selling his Bisleri Business. “Yes. We are,” answered the veteran industrialist told PTI.

Ramesh Chauhan said, “The Tata Group “will nurture and take care of it even better, although selling Bisleri was still a painful decision. I like the Tata culture of values and integrity and made up my mind despite the aggression shown by other interested buyers.”

The 82-year-old has been in indifferent health recently and says he doesn’t have an inheritor to take Bisleri to the next level of expansion. His daughter, Jayanti, isn’t too keen on the business, Chauhan hinted.

Chauhan does not plan to keep a minority stake in the company as he sees no point in it, considering he will no longer run the show. He plans to reinvest in environmental and charitable causes instead.

However, the 82-year-old denied that a ₹ 7,000 crore deal had been finalised with Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL). He also added that the group is in talks with several prospective buyers.

In a media statement, Chauhan hinted at the end of the topic, “We are currently in discussion and cannot disclose further.”

Thirty years ago, the Chauhans sold their soft drinks business to the US beverage major, The Coca-Cola Company. He repositioned brands such as Thums Up, Gold Spot, Citra, Maaza and Limca in 1993 to the Atlanta-headquartered firm.
