A massive 770-foot asteroid that is the size of a stadium will be reaching very close to planet Earth tomorrow, Monday, November 21.

It is frighteningly big and were it to crash on Earth, it would be very destructive for a huge part of the region it impacts and its effects would be felt worldwide.

According to the-sky.org, the Asteroid 2019 OR1 belongs to the Aten group of asteroids which was discovered on July 27, 2019.

This asteroid takes 343 days to complete one trip around the Sun, during which its maximum distance from the Sun is 198 million kilometers and closest distance is just 89 million kilometers.

Even though the distance might seem a lot, it is relatively a small number in astronomical distances.

It is already speeding towards our planet at a shocking 48182 kilometers per hour – nearly 3 times the speed of a missile!

The asteroid can be a problem only if it changes direction due to some reason like Earth’s gravitational pull, or if something else acts on it.

NASA is keeping a constant eye on the asteroid and many such other asteroid to ensure any such events are quickly found and they can take quick action against it.

There are many Earth and Sky-based technologies like telescopes, satellites, etc. deployed by NASA in space that helps them to keep track on these near-Earth potentially hazardous objects.
